Rules And Regulations
It must be borne in mind that the following rules and
regulations can be added to or changed depending on the
circumstances prevailing in the school or its environment at
a particular point in time.
1.
All Pitlochry Learners are expected to be courteous
and polite
·
they should greet all staff (secretaries, educators, the
principal and general assistants) whenever they pass them on
the corridor or meet them in the classrooms.
·
they should ensure that all requests are accompanied with a
‘please’ and followed by a ‘thank you’
2.
Visitors - Learners are required to
·
greet all visitors to our school - if the person is known
he/she should be greeted by name. Should the learner not
know the visitor’s name, he/she should be called either
‘Ma,am’ or ‘Sir’ respectively
·
to guide visitors to the place for which they are looking
·
to always stand back to allow visitors and staff entry to
offices, passages, classrooms, etc.
·
boys should understand that girls are to be treated
courteously by, for example, standing back to allow girls to
precede them into the classroom or through a doorway
3. Visiting Teams/Matches - Team members are expected to
·
be waiting in the car park to welcome their opposition team
on their arrival and to lead them off to their venue
·
display good sportsmanship
·
refrain from dirty play, booing, swearing or arguing with
the referee or umpire
·
shake hands at the end of the game with the opposition team
and their coach
·
always assist their coach to pack away equipment and clear
up all litter BEFORE departing for home
·
parents are to conduct themselves in such a manner as to
prevent embarrassment to learners, the school or themselves
4. Excursions - When out on excursions Learners are
expected to
·
behave in an appropriate manner to uphold the good name of
their school
·
show their consideration for the public by:
§
not blocking the pavement, walkway and/or entrance
§
always standing back and allowing the public to enter/pass
·
always thank the busdriver, parents who lift and the
educators in charge
5. Classroom Behaviour - Learners should
·
acknowledge and adhere to the rules of their particular
class
·
endeavour to exercise self discipline by not calling out and
distracting the class, as every learner has the right to be
educated in a calm environment
·
learn to co-operate with their peers (especially during
group work exercises); with their prefects and with their
educators
·
strive at all times to be honest, to have integrity and to
show compassion towards their peers
·
to take responsibility, at all times, for their actions and
to accept the consequences of their actions
·
complete work to the best of their ability in the allocated
time
6. New Learners - All Pitlochry Learners should
·
be friendly and helpful to new learners
·
invite them to join their games or to sit with them during
breaks
·
wherever possible help the children to adjust to their new
school environment, rules, regulations and codes
·
always assist a learner who is obviously lost
7. School Uniform
:
Pitlochry Learners must take pride in wearing their FULL
school uniform which should at all times be clearly labelled
with the learner’s name, neat and in good condition. Our
suppliers are Little Gem in Ridge Road, Overport and Sports
King, Telephone 2071318.

REMEMBER TO LABEL ALL ITEMS
Learners will be informed about sports gear for the
different codes of sport at the first meeting of the
relevant sport, e.g. rugby, hockey, cricket, etc.
8. School Bags
Pitlochry regulation school bags are to be used. (This is
for security reasons)
9. Appearance
·
Hair:
·
boys - must be worn in a school-boy cut, no steps, shaving
or long bushy unstyled hair
·
girls - long hair must be tied back neatly with either brown
or green bands, if short and does not touch collar it may be
worn down
·
boys and girls – no gel or colourant is allowed.
·
Earrings:
·
boys - NO earrings allowed (unless a letter stating for
religious reasons is sent in) – stud only (no diamonds)
·
girls - only ONE pair of earrings may be worn:
sleepers/studs in gold or silver
·
Nails:
·
must always be clean and short
·
no coloured nail polish
·
Name Badges:
·
to be worn every day
10. Discipline Codes - The Disciplining Of Learners Is
Aimed At:
·
instilling self-discipline
·
teaching cause and consequence
·
ensuring orderly behaviour
·
avoiding activity that is dangerous and that could result in
injury
·
encouraging the development of sound values
·
encouraging learners to take responsibility for their own
actions
·
the DISCIPLINE of Learners is the joint responsibility of
the Educators and Parents. Educators are responsible for
discipline while learners are under their care, whilst
Parents should not undermine the authority of the school and
should ensure that all homework is completed regularly.
Repeated disobedience, despite input from educators, will
result in the learner having to attend Responsibility
Class. Behaviour Modification should be discussed at Grade
meetings. Persistent, unacceptable behaviour, or, serious
misdemeanours must be brought to the attention of the
standard co-ordinator, the Guidance team, Disciplinary
Tribunal and Principal. (Should this situation not improve,
a letter will be sent to the parents and a copy to the
Governing Body). At this meeting the procedure,
Responsibility Class, Detention, Warning, Suspension and
Expulsion will be further explained.
General Rules
Before School
·
arrive at school by 07h20.
·
all learners are to gather under the Administration block
and blue awning on arrival at school
·
when the first bell rings at 07h30, the learners should
stand quietly and then, in an orderly manner, and lead off
to their classrooms
·
on Assembly days, when the second bell rings, learners
should lead off from their classrooms into the hall in a
quiet and orderly manner
·
no talking is allowed on entry into the hall, or whilst
walking back to their classrooms
During Break
·
at the beginning of break no learner must run
to the tuckshop or to the fields
·
no learners should be on the corridor, in the classrooms or
in the upstairs toilets
·
learners are not allowed to run up and down the banks
·
when the 10h30 bell rings at the end of break, every learner
must line up in their class groups and then wait for the
educator on duty to dismiss them to their respective
classrooms.
·
lessons commence at 10h35
·
no food must be taken into the toilets
·
no playing or loitering in the toilets
Rainy Days
·
Grade 6’s and 7’s are to remain in their own
classroom areas under the supervision of their individual
prefects and the teacher on duty.
·
Grade 4’s and 5’s may congregate under the Administration
block to eat their lunch. No running in this area
·
learners must stay out of the rain
·
learners must take an ‘under-cover’ route to the tuck-shop
·
all learners may use the upstairs toilets during breaks on
rainy days
In and Out of the School Grounds
·
always observe and respect the traffic regulations of the
road
·
once at school, no learners may leave the school premises
before 14h00, unless prior arrangements have been made
in writing from the parents to the Principal
·
parents are to report to the office on arrival at school.
No child may be collected directly from the classroom. (This
is for security reasons)
·
if a
ball rolls onto the road, permission must first be sought
from the Educator on duty for retrieval of the ball
