Code
Of Conduct For Learners
The Bill of
Rights as contained in the Constitution of South Africa, The
School Education Act No. 84 of 1996; Pitlochry’s Mission
Statement and The United Nation’s Children’s Bill of Rights
and Responsibilities – especially those pertaining to
education – were taken into account when compiling this Code
of Conduct. ALL LEARNERS at Pitlochry Senior Primary
School are expected to be active participants in the
curricular and co-curricular programmes and are obliged to
uphold the ethos and code of conduct of the school.

Every learner has the RIGHT to be taken seriously
and the RESPONSIBILITY

Every Learner has the RIGHT to a good education
and the RESPONSIBILITY
-
To
study, and, respect their educators
-
To
respond to the dedication of their educators
-
To
work towards becoming confident, motivated and
responsible learners
-
To
persevere (even when the task appears difficult) and
to never give up
-
To
attend school regularly and on time
-
To
respect their school ethos and all persons in
positions of authority
-
To
respect the different customs, traditions and
religions of peers
-
To
respect the right of all learners to learn and work
in a calm, orderly and co-operative environment
-
To
ensure that all set homework is completed, signed
and returned to school each morning
-
To
learn to work to a pre-planned schedule, thereby
ensuring that all assignments are completed and
handed in on time
-
To
refrain from aggressive, abusive behaviour. Any
form of physical abuse (intimidation, bullying,
victimisation, etc.) and verbal abuse (derogatory,
taunting, psychologically harmful, etc.) are
unacceptable
-
To
not absent themselves from school/classroom without
valid reasons and the permission of the person in
authority
-
To
adhere to the school rules and departmental
regulations
-
To
develop a proactive and positive attitude towards
their efforts for self improvement
-
To
respect the school property and to keep its grounds
clean and tidy
-
To
take care of school books and equipment
-
To
respect the belongings of their peers and never
touch/play or borrow any items without the owner’s
permission
-
To
endeavour at all times to reject disruptive,
undisciplined, negative and unco-operative behaviour
-
To
be grateful to their parents for providing them with
a good education.

Every learner has the
RIGHT to be loved and protected from harm and the
RESPONSIBILITY
-
To show
others love and a helpful, caring attitude
-
To be
tolerant of others who may have different opinions
and beliefs
-
To
refrain from dealing in and/or drugs
-
To
refrain from drinking alcohol or sniffing substances
-
To
refrain from smoking
-
To
refrain from carrying weapons that are potentially
dangerous
-
To
refrain from playing games that could result in
serious injury
-
To
refrain from bullying, intimidating, victimising,
verbally abusing fellow learners or endangering
their lives
-
To
ensure that no pornographic material is brought to
school
-
To
endeavour at all times to be an honest person with
high integrity
-
To
comply with all the safety and security measures
which have been devised by the school to protect
life and property.

Every
learner has the RIGHT to get special care for
special needs and the RESPONSIBILITY

To be
the best person he/she can be
-
To
regularly attend any extra help or classes that may
be organised for his/her benefit by his/her
educator/school
-
To ask
for assistance should they need it
-
To
always accept the challenge and to strive for their
highest level of capability
-
Every
learner has the RIGHT to be proud of their
heritage and beliefs and the RESPONSIBILITY
-
To
respect the origins and beliefs of all people
-
To never
make fun of, nor ridicule the beliefs of others
-
To
understand that every learner has the
right to receive equal treatment before the law.

Every
learner has the RIGHT to make mistakes and the
RESPONSIBILITY
-
To learn
from the mistakes
-
To never
be afraid of trying something new for fear of making
a mistake
-
To never
ridicule another learner who has made a mistake
-
To
approach the unknown with self confidence
-
To
strive towards becoming proactive, independent,
critical, disciplined and creative thinkers
-
To
actively support the effective learning process
-
To
accept punishment for inappropriate actions.
