Pitlochry Annual Science Expo

Pitlochry’s Annual Science Expo was held on the 20 August 2008. It was an amazing success and a wonderful experience for all involved. Pitlochry was thrilled to receive entries from eight other schools, namely Atholl Heights, Berea Road Primary, Gordon Road Girls’ School, John Wesley Primary, Kainon Primary, Premary Ridge Primary, Resmount Primary and St Michaels’ Primary, as well as a large group of learners from Pitlochry. This gave us a total of 147 entries with over 180 children participating.

The judges were delighted with the standard, quality and innovativeness of the exhibits. They were also pleased to see so many investigations into renewable resources and many other conservation aspects. A great deal of thought and effort had been put into the displays, titles and posters.

Another welcome aspect was the sponsorship from FFS Refiners. Our grateful thanks go to Mr Don Cochrane for his generous contribution. We hope, through media coverage, to encourage many other schools and learners to participate in an Expo such as this, in order to develop the Science and Technology skills amongst our youth, as this is one of the goals which we at Pitlochry are striving to achieve.

Our grateful thanks go to the many teachers, principals and community minded people who gave up their valuable time to judge exhibits.

Congratulations to all the learners who had the courage to participate and “went the extra mile” to produce items for the Science Expo. Well done!

Lastly, we dedicate this year’s Science Expo to Mr Gavin Stewart. Mr Stewart was a very valuable part of the Pitlochry team for over 20 years and was part of the Expo Committee from its inception in 2000. We were very saddened by his death at the beginning of May this year. The Best SeniorExhibit on Show will receive a trophy in his memory at the Prize Giving.
